I’m sad about it being broken, but a 2JZ in a Mustang... I approve of your choice. Also that car is beautiful. Nice color.

Yeah. I’m pulling the busted tranny out this weekend. Then I will patch / pound out the floor and put the new one in. Start the car and make sure the engine is OK. If it is, the plan is: build a new tranny mount, replace the rear brake line, POSSIBLY put in a new rear end, get a new drive shaft, put in a couple drive shaft loops, and do sub-frame connectors. Fun times.

Looks like a Ford 8.8 and you broke the u-joint strap.
With the rear, I’d pull the nut, replace the yoke, pinion, bearing, and seal. Internals are probably OK.

Brake lines near the tunnel? Is that stock?

My cousin had the front universal of the drive shaft cut loose on one of his cars. The shaft came through the floor by his right leg and banged around a while before catching something in the pavement and pole-vaulting the car. I’m pretty sure that car went straight to the junkyard.

Yup, Explorer 8.8. I’m taking the rear cover off to inspect the teeth soon. Honestly that’s the part I’m most bummed about and that could end up costing the most money, if something is toast in there. When you say replace the pinion, do you mean the entire pinion shaft / gear? That requires removing the rear guts and re-setting gear mesh and whatnot right? In my dreams I could just pull the nut, flange, etc and replace the seal then slap it all back together and not have to mess with the internals, but I’m NEVER that lucky.
Yes, the rear brake line runs down the inside of the tunnel on that side stock.
